The Red Loop Trail Run in Michigan’s Bald Mountain State Recreation Area is one of the most beloved trails in Oakland County. Situated in Lake Orion, it is a moderately challenging loop that ensures its use by locals, including me!

- Trail Length: The Red Loop measures an estimated distance of 3.8 miles according to my Apple Ultra 2, though some distance may differ due to different running watches or starting points.
- Elevation Gain: This trail features an elevation gain between 217 and 219 feet. There are elevation changes along the course; however, they aren’t too extreme or complicated.
- Terrain and Features: The trail is renowned for its small rocks and exposed roots, contributing to its moderate difficulty level. This intermediate trail also boasts natural elements and varied landscape features for an enjoyable trail run.
- Estimated Completion Time: It typically takes me less than 40 minutes to run the Red Loop, though this could vary depending on your pace or whether or not you stop for rest stops or to enjoy the views.
